"That thought makes me smile. I imagine my dots to dance!"
Silvi Schaumloeffel is an expressive contemporary oil painter living and working in Kelmscott by the Thames.
Silvi was born in 1979 in Germany and after her degree in Sports Marketing travelled extensively through her work before moving to the UK, where she now lives and works. Silvi trained in classic and contemporary oil painting and finished her Diploma at the Norfolk Painting School under Martin Kinnear in July 2016.
Silvi is interested in sharing a personal experience of a place, and while the experience and observations might seem to be personal to the artist, Silvi also tries to bring the viewer along to visually explore and find themselves engaged and part of the artists experience. Creativity being a process, many painterly decision are made along the way, not all successful, many surprising, but all adding to the joy of creating, of pushing paint, of playing with colour, aesthetics, and visual design. These traces of the creative process are an essential part of her work. Her fundamental quest is to express something personal, subjective and emotive in a lyrical abstracted way.
Her love for lush rich oil paint shows in the application and the dynamic surface of her works of art. She paints from sketches and memories working with a great range of marks and brushes, accepting the paint taking over and responding in an honest and lively way. This intimate chat between her and her paintings leads to engaging multifaceted works: fresh and personal.
The foundation of her work is in the continued study of the historic context, varied techniques and artistic evolvements of old and modern masters. Expanding her understanding of the tradition of oil painting is an important element to her work. By applying these techniques and her own original thinking and gestural brushwork to her work, she creates expressive contemporary paintings and unique pieces of work. Her technical focus is on expressive mark making and colour relationships.
Silvi’s practice involves both plein-air and studio work and embraces an extensive range of materials and techniques both traditional and contemporary.
My studio is based at Friar's Court in Clanfield, Oxfordshire. This is a look into my studio while it was very very tidy and clean.
